March 22nd has been declared the World Water Day by the United Nations General Assembly since the year 1993.It was first proposed in 1992 by UNCED, United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. On this day the public shows support by not using their taps for one day. The Governments and NGOs of various countries promote events and activities for protecting water resources of the world, providing clean water and maintaining aquatic habitats.
